Some of the results of our project were presented at the 9th Edition of ICCA 2025, the International Conference on Childhood and Adolescence, which took place in Braga between January 29 and 31, 2025.
Milena Moraes gave an oral presentation entitled “The Role of Media Exposure in Shaping Diet: Device-Specific Screen Time and Ultra-Processed Foods in Preschoolers”, showing the positive relationship between screen time and the consumption of ultra-processed foods in preschool children. Specifically, the use of smartphones seems to be the one with the strongest (harmful) association, followed by tablets and television. However, no statistically significant association was found between the consumption of ultra-processed foods and physical activity or nutritional status of children.
The work was co-authored by: Aristides Machado-Rodrigues, Gabriela Costa, Cristina Padez and Daniela Rodrigues.
ICCA aims to foster an open and inclusive dialogue on childhood and adolescence issues, integrating multidisciplinary perspectives and diverse experiences in the area. Through a participatory approach, which encourages the audience to actively engage in the debate, ICCA promotes synergy between theoretical and practical knowledge in the most varied areas related to the theme.
